Championing Social Responsibility.

A COMMITMENT TO NATURAL AND ORGANIC

At GIANT and MARTIN'S, we've been offering organic produce to our customers since 1993, and we continue to partner with the best suppliers for the quantity we need and the quality our customers expect. Natural and organic products are available in every category from fresh to frozen. In more and more stores, we concentrate natural and organic products in the Nature's Promise Marketplace, a unique department that allows customers to shop for over 3,500 natural and organic products including our own brand, Nature's Promise. Nature's Promise offers our customers a way to try high-quality natural and organic products at a price they can afford.

HELPING CUSTOMERS MAKE HEALTHY CHOICES

We've taken it a step further by offering healthy living information to customers both in the store and on our website. We produce an on-going program of consumer health and nutrition information - including healthy recipes, of course!

GIANT and MARTIN'S are one of the only grocery store chains in the country to have in-store nutritionists available for customers to receive personal healthy shopping assistance. Our nutritionists have been featured on national television as an innovative resource for customers who are shopping for foods to meet healthy goals.

"BUY LOCAL" INITIATIVES

GIANT embraces our responsibility to support the local economy and offer customers the widest selection of locally-grown products. GIANT was recently recognized by Pennsylvania Governor Rendell with the first-ever PA Preferred “Retailer of the Year” award.

Pennsylvania’s innovative PA Preferred program helps the state’s small farmers and food processors grow their businesses. Pennsylvania isn’t the only state with strong “buy local” initiatives. We are proud to showcase the agricultural bounty in all of the states where we operate. We are committed to strengthening the connection between the agricultural and retail industries so that everyone, from the grower to the customer, wins.

"GIANT Food Stores is playing a significant role by opening the door to new opportunities for hundreds of small companies. Their commitment helps us promote the quality products found across the state that bear the PA Preferred brand."

- Ed Rendell
Governor of Pennsylvania

DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE

At GIANT, associates thrive in a progressive, diverse environment centered on mutual respect, dignity, equality, open communications, and an emphasis on excellence in personal contributions to company goals. The ALANA Resource Group meets regularly to network and make recommendations on the direction of company policies related to diversity.

The ALANA Resource Group
The African American, Latino, Asian, Native American, Alaskan (ALANA) Resource Group is an intra-company committee of HR professionals and store operations management established to share knowledge and identify recruitment resources for attracting, hiring and retaining a diverse employee base.

CHOICECATCH

Since 2001, GIANT and its sister companies have worked with the New England Aquarium to offer our customers high quality seafood from sustainable sources. The project audits seafood sources for environmental impact and sustainability, and makes recommendations that help drive purchasing decisions. Our goal is to offer the variety customers expect while protecting the environment
and seafood species.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

From efforts that reduce waste in our stores to improving efficiencies in energy usage and distribution systems, we are always looking for ways to lessen our impact on our environment. Not only do we collect plastic bags from customers to be recycled into park benches, we recycle the 39,000 tons of cardboard boxes that we use each year. That's 1,700 truckloads of cardboard that are manufactured into recycled paper products. In 2006, GIANT Food Stores corporate office recycled 81 tons of office paper.

GIANT and MARTIN'S also have measures in place to conserve fuel and improve air quality at our Perishable Distribution Center located outside of Carlisle. Along with ensuring that each truck is scheduled to take the most efficient route possible to its destination, GIANT trucks are programmed with anti-idling mechanisms that automatically turn off ignitions after 5 minutes of idling. Signs and driver training reinforce this policy.

THE FUTURE OF CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

GIANT and MARTIN'S will continue to develop our efforts around Corporate Social Responsibility under these main tenets:

- Healthy Living
- Sustainable Trade
- Climate Change
- Community Engagement
