At GIANT, we are committed to helping eradicate hunger all year long.

GIANT BAGS HUNGER

As part of GIANT’s committment to give back to the communities in which we operate, we conduct an annual food drive. In the fall of each year, customers are given the opportunity to donate $1 at the register to go to their local Second Harvest food bank. For every dollar donated, food banks and pantries can provide $15 worth of food. So, every dollar truly does make a difference. This year we raised a total of $261,200. THANK YOU!

ERASE HUNGER

Annually, GIANT partners with The Patriot News in their efforts to Erase Hunger in Central Pennsylvania. From August 8, 2004 - August 20, 2004, customers could drop off non-perishable food products at local shopping malls or they may make a monetary donation at their local Central Pennsylvania GIANT Food Store check-out. All donations were given to the Central PA Food Bank. This year, customers donated over $400.

FOOD FOR ALL

This year-long campaign allows GIANT customers to participate in hunger prevention in their communities through donation cards at the checkout. Customers may choose to add $1, $3, or $5 denominations to their grocery bill. Ninety percent of the money donated stays in the local community, while the other 10 percent is used for administrative costs incurred by the Food Industry Crusade Against Hunger program.

RECLAMATION

Every year, GIANT sends millions of dollars worth of damaged product to reclamation. A major portion of this product is sent to food banks for distribution to the needy.

TURKEY DONATIONS

With the help of our vendors, GIANT donates thousands of turkeys to the Central PA Food Bank each Thanksgiving. Turkeys are later distributed by the food bank to needy families in the region.

FEEDING CHARITIES

Non-profit organizations may apply to receive day old bakery products from our stores. Once the organization is approved, a pick up schedule is determined with their local GIANT store. The organization is then able to pick up day old product and use it to help feed the hungry.
