GIANT FOOD STORES OPENS STATE-OF-THE-ART SUPERMARKET IN UPPER PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP

Eighth store in Montgomery County features one-stop shopping and the latest in customer convenience

Limerick, Pa. - Giant Food Stores will open the doors of its brand-new 72,000-square-foot Limerick, Pa., store - it's eighth in Montgomery County - at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2006. A ribbon-cutting ceremony with Giant officials and local dignitaries will mark the official opening of the most modern supermarket to reach the Montgomery County market, located at 1824 Ridge Pike.

"This new location is a great example of the next generation of supermarkets, offering service, selection and savings in a convenient, one-stop shopping experience," said Dave Liptok, store manager. "Whether it's a supervised child play area, a drugstore within the store, or a strong emphasis on customer-friendly technology, we hope to provide solutions to our customers' everyday shopping needs." Giant customers will find plenty of exciting features in the new store that are geared toward providing a more efficient, consumer-friendly shopping experience - all at affordable prices. In addition, key departments such as bakery, deli, meat and seafood are set off with their own look and feel, giving unique identities to the various sections of the store.

"Our newest Giant not only offers our customers an expanded selection of items in virtually every department, but does so in an inviting atmosphere and with friendly associates to help meet the needs of busy families," Liptok continued.

Open 24 hours daily, the new location will employ approximately 285 full- and part-time associates.

Giant features new state-of-the-art technology that provides added convenience for a total value shopping experience. In addition to friendly cashiers, EasyScan allows customers to utilize self-scanning units to expedite the checkout process. With EasyWeigh, customers weigh their produce, bulk food and other items making checkout quick and easy. Giant's self-service Shopping Solutions kiosks, which are conveniently located throughout the store, enable customers to perform numerous tasks - from printing out a tasty recipe to placing a deli order to reordering a prescription.

The Tree House at Giant features an on-site child play area where qualified staff supervise children ages 3 - 9 in a setting featuring games, toys and computers.

Focus on Natural and Organic:

The store also will offer an expanded variety of products in the natural and organic categories through a dedicated section, Nature's Promise Marketplace, which will include more than 3,500 frozen, dairy, grocery and special diet selections. Giant features a designated gluten-free product area located within Nature's Promise Marketplace. It includes a selection of foods available for customers on gluten-free diets due to celiac disease or other health concerns.

Customers are encouraged to look for Giant's exclusive Nature's Promise brands of natural and organic products, including the recently launched Nature's Promise meats, as well as information for leading a healthy lifestyle.
